EU Waste Shipment Regulation 2024/1157 explained: deadlines, documents, DIWASS and what your business needs to do

The revised Waste Shipment Regulation (EU 2024/1157) fundamentally changes how cross-border waste movements are documented. Paper forms are out. Digital submissions via DIWASS are mandatory. Here is everything your business needs to know , and what Travas does to make it simple.

What is the Waste Shipment Regulation?

EU Regulation 2024/1157 (the revised WSR) governs movement of waste across EU national borders. It replaces EC No. 1013/2006 (2006). Core objectives: full digitalisation via DIWASS, stricter controls on non-OECD waste exports, and circular economy alignment.

What is DIWASS?

DIWASS , the Digital Waste and Shipment System , is the European Commission's central platform for electronic waste transport notifications, integrated with TRACES NT. Three integration routes:

Consequences of non-compliance

Administrative fines (potentially tens of thousands of euros per infringement), rejection of shipments by receiving authorities, enforcement orders, and criminal liability for intentional infringement.

How Travas handles WSR compliance

  1. Auto-population of Annex IA or Annex VII based on waste code and routing
  2. Digital signature workflow for all parties
  3. Automated DIWASS submission via Route 3 API
  4. Real-time status tracking and deadline monitoring
  5. Automatic archiving and audit trail
Travas registers your company within one working day. Browser-based, no IT implementation required. From €1,695/year for up to 250 shipments , less than 1% of the average annual manual administrative burden.
